It´s an awful feeling.
You’re rushing to work in the morning, and once there, you’re like a robot, just doing your job for eight hours.
When you come home in the evening, you´re too tired to go out to meet friends. You probably don´t even have the energy anymore for your hobbies that you loved so much.
You´re working hard every day to pay your bills…sometimes you wonder if you’ll be able to survive the month.
Maybe you already think about getting a second job because your stingy boss doesn’t pay what you´re worth. Or what you need for living.
You’ve lost your smile, your happiness, your faith, and your passions.
You no longer like the person you see in the mirror every morning.
You Dream of Living in Paradise
When you read this blog, it makes you want to kiss your day job goodbye and move to paradise to make money by blogging. You know, like I did.
Today, I’m a happy and fulfilled Problogger living on earth´s paradises with million dollar views from the bedroom. On the mission to help you to accomplish the same lifestyle.
I’m doing all day long what I love to do. And I’m free to do it on my own terms.
You can have the same freedoms I have, such as:
- The freedom to work when you want
- The freedom to do what you love (and earn money with it)
- The freedom of being your own boss.
And most important: The freedom to work wherever you want.
The Perfect Paradise for you to move to
Can you imagine stopping your work to go out surfing for an hour and get back to your desk?
Or grabbing your notebook to work some time on a tropical beach during sunset?
Just close your notebook, go out to the beach, walk around, meet other like-minded creative heads from all over the world.
Wouldn’t that be the perfect paradise for you to move to?
After all, that´s the perfect work-life balance millions are dreaming of, right?
Working and earning money with all the benefits of staying in a holiday island with a year-round excellent weather.
Well, I happen to currently live in such a place.
Ten years ago, that wasn’t the case. I was in the same situation as you´re right now. I was tired of working for other people (besides the bad weather in my home country) and wanted to see beautiful places on earth.
I dreamed about starting my adventure in Gran Canaria.
I planned to stay here for about three to six months. Ten years later I call it home.
The reason for my change in plans was the growing community of digital nomads on the island.
The epicenter for digital nomads in Gran Canaria is the Capital Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with one of the most beautiful urban beaches in the world.
It’s a multicultural city with South-American flair, and home for young and old freelancers, entrepreneurs, and internet marketers from all over the world.
A wonderful place to network and to make money. At the same time to relax and to take healthy breaks from daily business stress in the company of like-minded people.
This ability to work alongside other digital nomads is what made me want to stay in Gran Canaria for the long haul. It’s also what allowed me to build my business here.
It got such a popular place for networkers that even the New York Times wrote about it in January.
Ever since, a steady stream of creative people came to live and work in Gran Canaria.
(And, of course, they came to see the spectacular variety of landscapes, beaches, mountains, and deep forests, and… But that’s another story).
So, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is quite perfect for the doers who love to live and work in a tropical climate with palm trees, and dreamlike beaches. And the world ́s best climate.
But there’s a hook in all the nice story.
Why Quitting Your Job and Moving to Paradise Can Be Quite Scary
Living in paradise means, you´re every day surrounded by dreamlike distractions.
It´s easy to find a thousand arguments not to write that new post today. Or not to design this new flyer. Or whatever your job as a freelancer is.
That’s why you should find a way to keep a good balance, or your move to paradise will be a short holiday.
Another hard fact is, that you will be all alone in an unfamiliar world without any friends or family nearby. And you’d have to build a social circle from scratch.
You may feel a bit like Robinson Crusoe. Lost in an unknown environment while talking to yourself.
I’m also sure there are a few other limiting beliefs and doubts running through your head.
- Are you brave enough for this adventure?
- Will your project be successful to let you survive far away from home?
- Will you have a hard time missing all your peeps?
Totally agree with you, those are crucial points that held you back from moving to your favorite paradise…until now.
But I show you a simple way you can do it.
And you won´t be alone.
Instead, you start your adventure with people who are exactly in the same position as you are.
Creative people like you who have the dream of living Sven’s glamorous expat lifestyle.
The Many Benefits of Coworking with Other Digital Nomads
To keep you on track and to fight procrastination, my advice is to start with a Coworking space. It will also help you to stay motivated, and to stick to your commitments.
The idea of Coworking unites professionals and companies from all areas to share expenses, ideas, and inspirations.
It is a step beyond a shared office: this dynamic way of working aims to form groups of temporary or permanent work, promoting activity and helping each other in their professional goals.
That´s nothing more or less than your space inside a wide open office, where you can work whenever you want to. Some Coworking spaces open 24/7. Others even offer cheap accommodation.
You´re surrounded by other Digital Nomads from all Continents. Creative minds like Designers, Copywriters, Internet Marketers, or Entrepreneurs.
Everybody works on his own projects, but the chance to build strong connections and friendships with coworkers may give your business a boost.
And besides sharing a workspace with fellow digital nomads, you will discover the island´s beauty together with your colleagues.
Many digital nomads have chosen already this method to come to Gran Canaria to change the world with their ideas.
And you can do it too. (Even if you´re still an employer.)
How to Properly Prepare Before Moving to Paradise Gran Canaria (So You Don’t Get in Trouble)
Before you quit your job to start your adventure, you need do a few simple steps.
(Besides the official paperwork you need to get done before anything else.)
It´s a preparation for not falling into traps.
Because the Canaries are far away from your home, and you probably don´t know anything about the local quirks.
Besides that, nobody can guarantee your idea will fill your fridge, and the social system isn´t yet the best here.
If you fail, there´s just one exit for you: The one back home.
I guess that’s not your goal.
The following points will help you to avoid failing on your Coworking adventure in Gran Canaria, and it will be as easy as booking a two-weeks holiday:
1. Don´t come with empty pockets
Sleeping on the beach sounds romantic. But first, it doesn´t feel that romantic anymore in wintertime. Temperatures remain pleasant 20-25 degrees, but the humidity and the winds will teach you reality. Second, the police won´t let you sleep.
So, you should at least have enough money to survive half a year without any income while living in your own flat, or a shared flat. You also need to pay your Coworking space that costs around a hundred bucks a month (Depends on what your needs are).
A flat will cost you more or less 400€ to 500€.
Make a serious plan of how much you need for living every month.
2. Learn the Spanish language
I can hear you. And you´re right. Learning the local language is not essential for quitting your job and moving to paradise.
But if you want to stay for longer (maybe forever), you should learn Spanish. At least a couple of words and sentences to start. In respect to the locals, and to simplify your life.
Locals love it when foreigners took the effort to learn a bit of their language, and you´ll make friends much faster. It also helps to stay independent (After all, that´s your dream, right?). Otherwise, you´ll always need help for anything.
3. Find your ideal CoWorking space
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria offers a couple of modern and fully equipped Coworking offices for medium and small businesses, entrepreneurs, and freelancers.
They provide everything you expect to find in a modern office. Plus toilets, kitchens and colorful relax zones.
Some of them are close to the beach. Others are hidden inside the city’s jungle.
If you’re a surfer, you should get your CoWorking space close to the beach. They even provide some space for your surfboard.
Well, you get the idea. Think about your perfect work-life balance before choosing your Coworking space.
Here´s a selection for you to choose from:
4. Quit your job
That´s the hard part you may be afraid of. Confronting your boss with the fact that you´re leaving the company.
It will be your final step to jump into a totally free lifestyle, but also a cut from a secure job with a steady income.
Nobody can help you with this point. But here´s one important advice: Never close the doors forever.
I know how strong the desire is to pelt your boss with bad eggs and tomatoes. But you´ll never know what happens in the future.
So, stay friendly and calm – even if your boss is a little dictator. That way there should be a huge possibility to get your job back when you´re in need of it.
5. Make your project profitable
If you´re just starting with your project and don’t have any clue yet on how to monetize your blog, or how to get traffic, you shouldn´t wait to get a blog coaching session with me.
He will take care that you´re on the right track with your project. He will tell you how to focus on the right tasks, what to change, and what to do next.
Most important, I can help you to create a freeing lifestyle and to make money by blogging.
Hey, I helped a 400-pound tiger to overcome fear of humans. Do you need any better proof?
6. Join local expat communities
You probably don’t know anybody in Gran Canaria.
But don’t worry about, because here’s the most simple solution for you:
Join the InterNations community. InterNations is a global expat community with about 1.7 Million members.
„Connecting global minds“ is their slogan and that’s exactly what you need when you start alone in a new world.
By attending the monthly free InterNations events, you get the chance to make friends, and to connect with local business owners. And you get answers from experienced folks about everything you need to know about living in the Canaries.
Break the chains, earn your freedom, and engineer a happy life blogging from anywhere.
You´re this close to getting that big smile on your face.
There´s probably no easier way to make your dream become a reality. And who knows if there´s any better time than now to start your adventure. If you don´t try now, your dream might be a dream forever.
You won´t regret your decision. But you will for sure if you don´t take this chance to live a happy life in freedom.
That freedom, that boosts your creativity and makes your project successful.
Make your own choices, and decisions and enjoy your desk in paradise.
Life is good.
